Sports vacation on the Balearic island of Mallorca

Just lying on the beach is too boring for you? Then a varied sports vacation on Mallorca is just the thing for you. The Balearic island not only offers ideal conditions for sunbathing but also invites you to engage in all kinds of sports, from the mountains to the sea.

First, let’s head into the water. The mild Mediterranean climate, favorable wind conditions, and easily accessible beaches and coves attract surfers to the waves. Although high waves rarely form on Mallorca, with the best chances occurring in winter, the island still offers some great surf spots and is becoming increasingly popular within the surfing community.

For beginners, the Bay of Palma in the west and Cala Mesquida in the east, with their sandy, flat bottoms, are ideal. Meanwhile, the Bay of Alcudia, thanks to the northeast winds, boasts the best breaks on the island, delighting advanced surfers and professionals all year round. Other recommended spots can be found near Son Serra de Marina in the east and in Cala Major, right next to Palma. Kitesurfers especially appreciate the relatively uncrowded Bay of Pollença in the north. The local surf schools and shops support surfers of all levels with expertise and equipment.

If you want to go diving in Mallorca, you can admire a shipwreck right off the coast of Palma. Along the east coast, you can explore caves and underwater grottos, particularly around the La Victoria peninsula. At Sa Dragonera, the small dragon-shaped island to the west, you might be lucky enough to encounter schools of barracudas, eagle rays, dolphins, turtles, and seahorses. Snorkeling is possible almost anywhere. The rule of thumb is: the rockier the cove, the clearer the water and the better the visibility.

The island is also a paradise for nautical enthusiasts. Whether sailing or motorboating, Mallorca offers a whole new perspective when seen from the sea. A private yacht, in particular, allows for unlimited freedom.

There’s plenty to experience on land during a sports vacation in Mallorca as well. The island can be wonderfully explored on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback, passing breathtaking natural landscapes. The best companions for hiking are an up-to-date hiking guide, GPS, and flexibility, as not all routes are marked. There are trails of all difficulty levels, from the Serra de Tramuntana in the northwest (Tossals Verds) to the central farmlands (Muntanya de Randa) and the coastal paths (Caló des Màrmols).

For those who prefer something more challenging and thrilling, trekking, mountain biking, and climbing in the Tramuntana Mountains are excellent options. The terrain can be rough at times, but overcoming obstacles is what makes such adventures so exciting. Mallorca’s highest peak is Puig Major at 1,436 meters. The ascent from Sóller takes about six hours, and once at the summit, you’ll be rewarded with an unforgettable view over the island—especially at sunrise.

There are truly no limits to movement and action on this island. We know Mallorca in all its facets and are happy to organize your sports vacation according to your individual needs.
