Just a Quick Escape to the Sun – If, like me, you’re longing for a getaway to the sun after our rather lackluster summer, I invite you to join me on my travel report about luxury hotels in Mallorca—Germany’s favorite island. LANDMARK not only offers the best hotels but also an exclusive portfolio of the finest fincas and holiday homes in Mallorca.
After just a two-hour flight—which feels like a mere hop when you’re used to flights of 12 hours or more—we arrive. My travel companion and I have planned three stops; after all, there’s so much to discover on the island.
UNWINDING IN RURAL MALLORCA
The first hotel we head to is the Park Hyatt Mallorca. Opened in June 2016, it is the island’s new luxury gem. We quickly pick up our rental car and set off on a drive through rural Mallorca, where even during peak season, peaceful spots can be found in the island’s interior and along small coves. The warm air and the scent of lavender welcome us upon arrival.
The first hotel on our Mallorca luxury hotels list is the Park Hyatt, located in Cap Vermell above Canyamel on the island’s eastern coast. With its winding courtyards, shady pergolas, terracotta, and brick buildings, it feels like a traditional Mallorcan village. Mediterranean gardens, flowing water features, and the mountain backdrop—alongside attentive service—create an instant sense of comfort.
Since it’s already late, we decide to grab a drink at the Tapas Bar before heading to bed. Like the other two restaurants at the hotel, the Tapas Bar is near the lobby, pools, and central square. We are impressed when we spot the glass display cases filled with delicious treats—such as exquisite cheeses and Jamón Ibérico, the typical Mallorcan ham, freshly carved in the open kitchen. Additionally, a superbly stocked wine cellar will delight connoisseurs and wine lovers alike.
The small snack does us good, but we’re now truly exhausted and eager to retreat to our Deluxe Room. The 142 rooms and suites are spread across three-story hillside buildings. Apart from the even more spacious Park Suites and the two Presidential Suites—which feature a separate living room—all rooms measure 50 square meters and offer a comfortable bed, a sofa with a table, an open wardrobe, a bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower, as well as a balcony or garden. A highlight of the Presidential Suites is the massive terrace with an outdoor Jacuzzi, along with an open kitchen and dining area.
GOURMET INDULGENCE AT ITS FINEST
The next morning, we are treated to a delicious breakfast buffet at the Balearic Restaurant. Here, too, we can watch the chefs in action, as many dishes are prepared à la minute. We take our time, indulging in the spread while reading newspapers and books. The sun is shining—this is how a vacation should begin.
We then choose between three pools and opt for the adults-only version, perfect for recharging our batteries. Throughout the day, we enjoy delicious coffee and pastries at Café Sa Placa, and in the early evening, we sip a Tinto de Verano at the Pool Bar before ending this indulgent day at the Asia Restaurant. The menu features carefully selected dishes from China, India, Indonesia, and Thailand. All we can say is—the food is excellent. My companion, a professional chef, is particularly impressed by the attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients.
CHOOSING BETWEEN ACTIVITIES AND WELLNESS
As wonderful as pure relaxation is, we also want to explore the beautiful surroundings and consider our options for the next day. A hike through the area? A trip to Artà, where the Sant Salvador parish church, the citadel, and charming restaurants invite visitors to linger? Or a visit to the Coves d’Artà caves? Maybe a relaxing beach day instead?
The bay of Canyamel, with its 300-meter-long sandy beach, is just a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and other beaches can be easily reached by mountain bike. A round of golf at the Canyamel Golf Club, whose 18 holes offer an exciting challenge, also sounds tempting… I can’t decide and am glad we have several days to experience everything at our own pace.
One thing is already certain: Park Hyatt is undoubtedly among the best luxury hotels in Mallorca.
I’m particularly looking forward to my massage at Serenitas Spa, which is perched on a higher level and offers spectacular views from nearly every treatment room. The stylish, wonderfully scented atmosphere, the sound of gentle water features, and the skilled hands of the therapists instantly wash away all stress. I float on clouds into the relaxation room afterward.
Next, the mountains call—specifically, the Serra de Tramuntana. Cyclists especially love the hilly routes with spectacular Mediterranean views. Along these narrow roads, we drive to Belmond La Residencia, nestled into the hills of Deià.
MOUNTAIN PANORAMAS, OLIVE GROVES, AND ART
Deià is a small village with narrow, winding alleys, typical Mallorcan houses, a church, and quaint little shops. The area is perfect for hiking and exploring the surrounding mountain villages. We had planned to be active, but Belmond La Residencia is so enchanting that we don’t want to leave.
The 16th- and 17th-century manor houses and residential buildings are spread across multiple levels, accommodating 67 rooms and suites. I find it impressive how the traditional Mallorcan style has been elegantly interpreted here.
With three restaurants, two outdoor pools—one exclusively for adults—and an indoor pool in the wellness area, there’s ample space for relaxation. The spa also offers modern wellness treatments and a Bodytalk session, transporting me into a new realm of relaxation.
Throughout the hotel, paintings and contemporary artwork adorn the walls. One could spend an entire day simply admiring them. There’s even the opportunity to paint with two resident artists.
A LUXURIOUS FINALE WITH HARBOR VIEWS
Our final days on the island are spent at Jumeirah Port Soller, perched atop a cliff overlooking the harbor. We revel in the breathtaking views of the bay and sandy beach of Sóller on one side and the open sea on the other.
With two pools—one an infinity pool reserved for guests aged 12 and up—two restaurants, and three bars, we experience relaxation, indulgence, and entertainment. In the evenings, visitors from outside the hotel often join the Sunset Sushi Lounge, which offers live jazz performances on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
All rooms boast breathtaking views of the Tramuntana mountains or the sea. The surrounding area offers plenty to experience: we hike, enjoy fresh seafood at the harbor in the evenings, and take a bike tour. Luckily, the hotel’s top-notch spa ensures our tired legs are refreshed with expertly curated massages.
Final Thoughts on Mallorca’s Luxury Hotels
A perfect combination to discover Mallorca’s many facets. I can only recommend that everyone experience firsthand that this Balearic island has so much more to offer than just beaches.
