Manacor, not far away, is the island’s third-largest municipality and known as Mallorca’s industrial hub. The town center has retained its authentic character with its bars and cafés. Wander the streets and soak up the Mallorcan charm of this small city. The bell tower of the Nostra Senyora dels Dolors church is the tallest building on Mallorca, surpassing even Palma Cathedral. Fresh produce is available on weekdays at the fruit and vegetable market or during the weekly market held on Monday mornings. You might also visit the exhibition halls of the Majorica and Perlas Orquidea pearl manufacturers. The Coves del Drac near Porto Cristo are limestone caves featuring fascinating formations. At Martel Lake, one of the world’s largest underground lakes, an auditorium hosts classical music concerts. From here, it’s a short distance to the beaches of Cala Angulla and Cala Nau. One particularly beautiful spot is the unspoiled Platja des Trenc beach in the south of the island, known for its stunning scenery. The capital Palma offers a more bustling atmosphere, where visiting the La Seu Cathedral and the old town with its charming alleys and historic buildings is a must for every visitor.
